Frequently Asked Questions

  • Your first session is really about us getting to know each other. We will spend some time talking about what has brought you to seek counselling, what you are hoping for as a result of counselling, and any questions or concerns you might have about the process.

There is no pressure to share everything right away, you can go at your own pace. Some people come in with a clear idea of what they want to work on, while others just know something doesn’t feel quite right. Both are completely ok.

I may ask some questions to better understand your experiences, your supports, and what is important to you. Together we will start to get a sense of what you would like to focus on in our work together.

Most importantly, the first session is a chance to see if you feel comfortable. A good therapeutic fit matters and you are always welcome to ask questions about how I work.

  • Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length and cost $160.

Longer sessions are available and if this is something you are interested in, please reach out for booking support.

If financial challenges or barriers are impacting access counselling, please reach out so we can discuss options such as pro bono or sliding scale.

  • Yes, direct billing is an option for many insurance providers. Please reach out to see if we can direct bill to your provider.

  • Coverage for counselling services can vary depending on your specific insurance plan. It is your responsibility to reach out to your provider directly to confirm whether services provided by a Registered Counselling Therapist - Candidate (RCT-C) are included in your coverage.

  • Currently all counselling sessions offered with Next Chapter Counselling Services are online only.

  • Yes, I work with military families and veterans.

Having served for 17+ years in the CAF and being both a military spouse and a child to service members, this is a community I feel privileged to support.

Insurance coverage for currently serving CAF members does not extend to Registered Counselling Therapist - Candidates at this time so sessions would need to be paid out of pocket.

Coverage for military family members and veterans is typically covered through insurance. Please check with your insurance provider to confirm if Registered Counselling Therapist - Candidates (RCT-Cs) are covered through your provider.

  • Finding the right fit in counselling really matters. If at any point it doesn’t feel like the right connection, that is completly ok.

You are always welcome to share how you’re feeling and we can talk about what is not working or what you might need instead. If it seems like a different approach or another therapist would be a better fit, I am happy to help you in finding someone who more closely aligns with your needs.

My goal is for you to feel comfortable, supported, and respected - whether that is with me or someone else.

  • This is a really common question, and the honest answer is that it depends.

Everyone comes to counselling with different experiences, goals, and levels of support, so the timeline can look different for each person. Some people start to notice small shifts within a few sessions, while for others, it can take more time to work through deeper or longer-standing challenges.

We will check in regularly about how things are going and adjust our approach as needed. You’re always part of that process.

Therapy isn’t about rushing change. It’s about creating meaningful, lasting progress at a pace that feels right for you.
